Do I need a website if I have a Google Business Profile?
Your Google Business Profile helps people find you on Google and Maps. Your website is where they go to learn more before they get in touch. Many local businesses use both, and each one makes the other more useful.
What your Google Business Profile does
It puts you on Google Maps and in local results, with your hours, phone number, photos and reviews, and it’s free. If yours isn’t set up yet, start with our Google Business Profile checklist.
What it can’t do
- Explain each of your services in detail.
- Answer the questions customers ask before they call.
- Give your ads a page that matches what people searched.
- Look like your business. Every profile follows Google’s layout.
What your website does
A website gives you room to explain. Each service you offer gets its own page, with the questions people ask about it. It works on phone, tablet and desktop, and its form sends every inquiry straight to your inbox.
How the two work together
Your profile links to your website. Someone finds you on the map, taps through, and reads the page for the service they need. We keep the same name, services and contact details on both, so it’s clear they belong to one business.
Which to do first
If you have neither, set up the free profile first, then build the website so the people who find you have somewhere to learn more. If you already have a profile and your website is old or missing, the website may be the next step.
Questions
Is a Google Business Profile enough for a small business?
It’s a strong start, and it’s free. But it leaves little room to explain your services, and you don’t control how it looks.
Can I run Google Ads without a website?
Ads do better when they send people to a page that matches what they searched. A page for each service gives them somewhere to go. More in what your website needs before you run ads.
What should be on my website that isn’t on my profile?
A page for each service, answers to the questions customers ask, and a form that sends inquiries to your email.
Should my website and profile say the same thing?
Yes, using the same business name, services and contact details everywhere makes it easier for Google, AI tools and customers to know it’s you.
